Take the old sad world by it's skinny little neck and make it laugh and sing.
This is Glenn Miller a dear friend of mine of over 15 years who has lost everything to Hurricane Katrina. He is an artist who lives in Ocean Springs, MS. As the waters rose in his house, he grabbed a few prized possessions, a bottle of whisky and swam out the door to his eventual safety.

Upon returning to what was left of his home, he found everything in ruins. Ever since, he has been consumed with saving what is left of his life's work. Forty years of sketchbooks, etchings, paintings. Ignoring the chaos of what a house full of water does to things like couches and dressers and appliances, he has set up what he calls an "art hospital" in his backyard. Makeshift tables made out of the doors ripped from their hinges and whatever else he could find snake throughout his backyard, where he has to treat each piece of art with bleach to stop further water damage and lay it out in the sun to dry.

Eventually, his house will have to be rebuilt and, I'm afraid, without flood insurance, Glenn will be left homeless. Several people have asked what, if anything, they could do to help. With Glenn's permission, I have set up a Paypal account using his bank information so that any donated funds will go directly to his account. Use the link below to get to Paypal's site and then use glennetching@yahoo.com as the recipient. This is micro-charity folks and any amount that you could lend would be most appreciated. If you would rather send a check or just some words of encouragement, Glenn's address is:

Glenn Miller
417 Dewey Ave.
Ocean Springs, MS 39564

I will update this site with photos of the damage and eventual rebuilding as well as donation progress.
Thanks in advance!        -Sara Pulver

UPDATE: 10/3/05
We've raised about $4,000 for Glenn now and I am in the process of trying to get some grant money for him as well. Glenn's spirits are good and he says he can't give up now after everyone has ralied around to help him! He has been waiting for FEMA to show up to give him an idea of what kind of help he can expect from them but they have yet to show and Glenn decided to gut his house in the attempt to stop the black mold.
